STARS 18AAA COME TOGETHER IN 5-1 WIN
Salt Lake City, Utah October 11,2008 - Afer four consecutive losses the Stars 18AAA team put it all together to defeat a very physical Okanagan Academy team from Canada. Okanagan struck first 1-0 but the stars never relinquisted another goal. At halftime the Stars led 3-1. The game seemed to be in a stalemate until halfway through the 2nd half when Kenny Brooks railed one of the opponets at center ice that would have made any hilight film. The hit jarred the puck lose and the stars went the other way. Seconds later Brooks roofed the puck over the goalie and the Stars led 4-1. The Stars scored again and that's how the game finished. Scoring details to come......
STARS DROP CLOSE ONE TO CHADDERS 6-5
Salt Lake City, Utah October 11,2008 - The NV Stars couldn't shake the funk they have been in and dropped a back and forth battle to Chadders 6-5. Chadders started out with a 2-0 lead when Matt Hedderly scored to bring them to within one goal. Chadders added another but goals by Bryan and Hedderly tied it up. he Stars took the lead on a Chris Carter score from the blue line on the powerplay. Chadders scored the next goal to tie it up and both teams traded goals late in the second half with a Dmetri Culkar goal. With two minutes left Chadders scored the winning goal. The Stars pulled Matt Vorce but couldn't tie it up in the wanning moments. The Stars face Okanogan Academy tonight and once again in the morning. The coaches all agree there is much work to be done!
STARS FORGET TO SHOW UP FOR FIRST GAME LOSE 5-2
Salt Lake City, Utah October10,2008 - The NV Stars 18AAA team came up with their most uninspired effort in years in dropping the first of four games in Utah 5-2 to the Dallas Penguins. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie. The Penguins scored five unanswered goals in the first twelve minutes of the second half as the Stars played like it was a meaningless afternoon pick up game. Coach Pokie Reddick covered all the positive points of the game in less than two seconds. Kenny Brooks and Matt Hedderly scored for the Stars.

Midget 16AAA Back To Work After Nike Bauer Invite
November 2, 2008 Chicago, IL - Nv Stars 16AAA is heading home Sunday and back to work on Tuesday. The Stars lost thier final game to the #3 ranked St Louis Jr Blues 7-2 Saturday night at the Nike Bauer Invite. The Stars ended up 0-3-1 but were in every game till the second period of the Blues game. They lost two games by one goal that could have easily gone the other way. The tie was the same as the Stars just couldn't find the net to pull out the wins. Simply put by head coach Micah Sandford " You play the way you practice." Sandford was not at all pleased with the practice week going into the tournament. Lesson well learned and onto November 21-23 when the Stars host OCHC, Chadders and Dallas Penguins 93's.
November 1, 2008 Chicago, IL - The Stars have been within one goal in both thier losses this weekend. They fell victim to the Florida Panthers 3-2 in the first game of the day. Nick Kukielka and Cody Milligan scored for the Stars. Next up tonight is the St.Louis Jr Blues.
November 1, 2008 Chicago, IL - The Nevada Stars 16AAA have played two games in the Nike Bauer Invite and are looking for thier first win this morning against a good Florida Panther team. The Stars started out losing a close one to the Ottawa Jr Senators 4-3 in a back and forth battle. Last night the Stars tied the Central Penn Panthers with :29 seconds left in the game. Cory Ward scored both goals, one was shorthanded. A much better effort in the second game by all players led to the tie. Tonight the Stars face a top ranked St. Louis Jr Blues team that has won both thier games 8-0 and 8-1. Stay tuned more to come.

Bolton rolls dice on puck career
Las Vegas product uses connections to hook up with Oceanside squad
Brad Bird, Oceanside Star
Published: Thursday, October 02, 2008
Better known for Celine Dion than Marcel Dionne, Las Vegas isn't exactly a hockey hotbed. But Steven Bolton isn't letting that stop him. The 18-year-old net minder was raised in Vegas and played his minor hockey there. Now he's up with the Oceanside Generals of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League and is happy to be here.
In hockey, as in life, it's all about connections, and his goalie coach in Vegas was Pokey Reddick, who played 132 games in the NHL, mostly with the Winnipeg Jets. Reddick also played junior with Dave Johnston, the Generals' head coach. Reddick phoned Johnston one day and said he had a prospect who needed Canadian ice time, and Johnston was in the market for such a player.
Now he's got three solid goalies in Bolton, Justin Borsa and local product Stephen Wolff. "He's doing all right," Johnston said of Bolton on Saturday during first period action against the Campbell River Storm. "He's a good-sized kid. Very committed." It's early, but after two starts Bolton was leading the VIJHL with a goals against average of 1.88 and a save percentage of 91.55. (Number two in the league was Borsa, with stats of 2.83 and 87.50.) Bolton admits he gets kidded a lot, coming from the desert, and neither of his parents played hockey (mom's a teacher, dad's a maintenance man), so what's the story?
He started playing road hockey as a boy, and to be different from his brother put on the pads one day and stood between the pipes. He loved it. "Mom said: 'If you want to go pro in hockey you've got to play ice hockey.'" So he did, against midget teams from Chicago and California, working his way up. He's here with his eye on the B.C. Hockey League, hoping to get called up this year or next. He wants to win a scholarship at an American NCAA school. How does the play in Canada compared to the United States? Faster-paced, he said. "And there's a lot of traffic in front of the net." Nerves don't seem to be a problem. He consented to an interview 25 minutes before game time Saturday, calm and well-spoken. "I think we've got the best defense in the league. We have a great team," he said, though that wasn't on view Saturday night, when they lost 4-1 to Campbell River. The Generals stand 5-4 on the season with two weekend losses. Assistant coach Jason Dubyna likes what he's seen of the young goalie, however. "He's been awesome," he said Saturday. "Right now he's leading the league in goalie stats. And he's a great personality with his teammates."
Goalie coach Darryl Humphrey of the visiting Storm coached midget and knows about minor hockey in Vegas. "There's actually pretty good hockey down there," he said. "There's a lot of good coaches who have moved down there to start coaching." Coming to Canada to play makes a lot of sense not only because the hockey is better, but so is the visibility, Humphrey said. He added there are a lot more scouts in Canada -- "just more exposure." So, is the NHL in Bolton's sights? He says it is. "I just want to take it one step at a time." The Generals are in Campbell River Friday night for a rematch against the Storm. You can hear the game on The Beach 88.5 FM, with play-by-play man Ian Holmes. Saturday at Oceanside Place the Generals host the Victoria Cougars. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m.
