Sergei was born in the former Soviet Republic of Latvia. He started skating at the age of five and begin hockey career at the age of nine. Sergei played different levels of ice hockey-from midgets and juniors to college and semi-pro. The highlight of his career was playing for the Latvia Junior National Team. In 2000, Sergei helped team Latvia to win the European Junior Championship, and in 2001 Sergei helped Team Latvia to win the Bronze medal at the World Junior Championship in Group B. Currently, Sergei resides in Las Vegas with his wife Jennifer and his son Nikolai.
